Camp Katur
Camp Hill Estate
Bedale
North Yorkshire

Our rating 4/5

Restrictions YES (We would say Camp Katur is unsuitable for disabled people)

Last summer we went to Camp Katur situated in the Camp Hill Estate in Bedale. It's a good hours drive from where we live in North West Leeds. The journey there was by A roads through Harrogate before heading to Ripon and on to Bedale and the Camp Hill Estate. The journey took us through some beautiful Yorkshire scenery so we were glad we'd gone via the A roads rather than using the A1(M)

When we arrived we drove through the Camp Hill Estate until we reached the Glamping Village. The Village comprised of Teepees, Safari tents, Geopods and Hobbit pods. All the accommodation units were spaced out providing lots of privacy.

We stayed in a Hobbit pod, basically a large hexagon shaped garden shed with windows. Residents of hobbit pods were allowed to take their car close to the edge of where the hobbit pods were located to unpack their belongings.

We arrived mid afternoon so there was plenty of time to walk around the Camp Hill Estate to check the place out. In the evening we had a BBQ followed by drinks before heading to bed. Although it was June when we visited, the weather was quite cool through the night but there was a gas heater provided which we found useful. We slept reasonably well but it was difficult to settle the kids.

Similarly to camping, toilet facilities were located away from the accommodation so we had a couple of trips during the night with the kids to the toilet facilities which were fairly close by.

During the morning of our first full day we wandered up to the communal area where there were cooking facilities to make a much deserved full english breakfast. The facilities were clean with plenty of utensils. After breakfast we visited the nearby adventure playground where there were tree-top houses and zip-wires for the kids (and the adults to play on. There was a Go Ape adventure park on the site which was available for those who had prebooked.

All in all we really enjoyed Camp Katur. We decided that if we were to go back we would go for the geodome rather than the Hobbit pod for the extra facilities they have. There was plenty to do and places to go off-site if the weather wasn't so good.
